The sole content of this collection is a photocopied letter from Elias. E. Dayto his wife Grace. The letter describes the history of Shalam Colony and Day's visit there.

Biographical Sketch
came to Las Cruces in 1883, tried and disliked farming, and took up with a local contractor in 1888, F.H. Bascom Company, which constructed the Loretto Convents. He married , of Gloucester, Massachusetts [who is an earlier version of this finding guide was referred to as Grace Phelps] in 1893.
Day served in the County Commission from 1899-1900 and was the Dona Ana School Superintendent from 1901-1902 and later became the first president of the county's Chamber of Commerce. Day was also a member of the Masons and became a Grand Master for the New Mexico Grand Lodge.
