Scope and Contents

There are 200 recordings classified as Miscellaneous. These include interviews with Creek, Northern Digueno, Clallam, Eskimo, Blackfoot, Navajo, and non-Indian informants. Also included are recordings of meetings and television productions. Many of the transcripts contain personal and family histories with information on social culture, education, ceremonies, legends, language, religion, economy, government and history. Subjects covered include boarding schools, livestock, farming, whaling, hunting, fishing, traditional stories, arts and crafts, modern health issues and organizations such as the National Congress of American Indians and the National Indian Youth Council. Informants also describe historical and contemporary intertribal and intercultural relations.

Access Restrictions

Researchers are required to use the microfilm or digital edition of interview transcripts. Only Navajo transcripts are currently available in digital format.

Four restricted tapes and transcripts are closed indefinitely. They are not listed in the finding aid.
