Jose Edujenio Trujillo, b. 1892, Hernandez, NM, later in Espanola. (Entire CD in Spanglish). 1. Conversacion (various, many people remember seeing a bear while searching for herbs in Hernandez, New Mexico; home remedies, medicine; women are terrified, speaker is armed with 22 rifle; speaker's cousin, Jose Gregorio Lovato, marries sister an illiterate story teller; descriptions of rams, carneros, sheep, that are branded, domesticated); 3. La gente mala (speaker thinks worst thing, that he can't understand is crucifixion of Jesus, passion, 40 days, people are not scared they have no conscience, barbarity); 4. La vida en el otro mundo (how would you imagine heaven and hell, is heaven another world, stories of reincarnation, a possibility or joke); 5. Los santos (Catholic religion, faith, speaker would like to be a saint, story of a spirit in Espanola, New Mexico, that carried a bow and arrow; people take shoes to santo in Sanctuario de Chimayo, he wears out every pair; crippled people put sand on their legs, cured, and leave their crutches there. Santuario is scary at night).
