Rael, 1974: Seledonio Romero, b. 1906, Ignacio, Colorado, later lived in Vadito, NM. Possible story from Los Cerros de Turututu, near La Joya, in Socorro County (poor to fair recording, cuento, about magic, animals that fight about who killed a cow, ant, eagle, lion, hawk, a boy splits the cow amongst the animals, they want to compensate the boy, so they each give him the power to turn into animals like them, so he turns into an eagle and flies away, sees a king fighting with a giant who stole his daughter, the boy turns into different animals, kills the giant and saves the princess, the kings allows them to marry as a reward. Rael, 1974: Lucia Martinez, b. 1880s, Picuris, NM. Narrative in Tigua language (spoken in Native American Indian language, conversation between Rael and Martinez, parts in English, mention of a woman that cleans the houses of people that are very old for a program called Home for the Aged, elderly, he spoke of domestic importance to his mother who is Apache).

McCormick, 1974: Juan Montano, b. 1903, Albuquerque, NM. (Poor to fair recording). Mariano Leyba, from New Mexico. Part I, biography, life, etc. (poor to fair recording, long, slow story. Mariano Leyba was a good, brave man, in the years 1878 - 1880, but was considered an outlaw and bandit, crime, law enforcement. The U.S. government sent an American to work in the Minas de San Pedro Viejo, mining, mines in the Sandia Mountains, Manzano Mountains, East Mountains, a group of robbers, ladrones, came to San Antonito, traveled from San Pedro Viejo, Mariano Leyba encounters them on the road and tells them about the rich American, and about the poor of the pueblito that work hard to make a living, the American and Mariano get in a gun fight and Mariano shoots and kills him. Mariano travels the Sandias until he arrives at an uncle's house in a village called Tecolote. He gives the money that he took from the American to the poor Mexican people of San Pedro Viejo, Robin Hood character, he travels to Santa Fe, while others search for him and his loot and others try to arrest him. They arrive in the town of Tejon and Juan Padilla says he knows Mariano and talks well of him, wears a gold ring that Mariano had given him. The three law enforcement officials travel to San Antonito to look for Leyba, they find a house, and ask for posada, a place to stay, hospitality, the man says yes, they eat and say they are poor and are headed to Albuquerque, they ask about a murdered American, and the man tells them about Leyba, in reality, he is Leyba, in the morning, the officials go to arrest him but they are unarmed and he has dos pistolas. He explains that he killed the American in self defense and shows them where. In a related event, some of his friends and gang members are sent to a federal penitentary, prison, after six months they plan to escape. Leyba goes to a prison guard and asks him to speak to the main guard to tell them that there will be an escape at 1 AM, warning, cont. on CD 251).
