McCormick, 1974: Juan Montano, b. 1903, Albuquerque, NM. (Poor to fair recording). Mariano Leyba, Part II, cont. The prison guards heighten security on eight prisoners, ocho tejanos ladrones, eight Texas robbers, that had robbed U.S. government and military funds. Mariano explains that he did not return the American's money to the government in order to do justice for his people, says he wants to speak to the main government official and he is allowed to because others say he is buena gente, he dresses and takes a train to the White House, Washington, DC, and speaks with the President of the U.S.A., Leyba explains his story to him. Later, Leyba creates a plan to get them out of jail, he asks for eight unarmed men and eight sets of handcuffs, and old, poor clothes, from the people of the town. In a related event, near the site of the shooting of the American, Mariano runs into a man who is cutting wood, the man asks to stay at Leyba's house, the two men get in a confrontation and the man runs to a friend's house. At the end of the CD, in the final 10 minutes, Leyba is at a cantina or bar and the cantinero, Johnny Hart, only charges Leyba one peso for his drinks, Billy the Kid enters and they stare at one another, ready with pistolas to duel, etc.)
