Albuquerque Klio Club Charter,
Scope and Content
The collection consists of the original typed charter of the Klio Club, founded in Albuquerque on May 8, 1895. The charter designates the Klio Club as a charitable organization. The names of Mrs. T. W. McIlvaine, Alabama Carey, Eliza Drury, and Elvira Tarbox are typed at the bottom of the charter as the founding members.
There was a Clio Club in Albuquerque ca. 1882. The club dwindled in size, and was reorganized in approximately 1886 to hold meetings "for the purpose of reading history and modern literature, and in fact, talk over all the principal events of the day." Gossip was strictly prohibited.
