Biographical Information
Wernher von Braun, (born March 23, 1912, Wirsitz, Germany [now Wyrzysk, Poland]— died June 16, 1977, Alexandria, Virginia, U.S.) was a German scientist who played a prominent role in all aspects of rocketry and space exploration, first in Germany during World War II and after World War II in the United States. Braun was influencial in the development of the V-2 rockets and the Saturn program. Based for a while in El Paso, Braun was part of a group that launched rockets at White Sands Proving Ground, New Mexico.
