Each journal notebook is identified by the dates assigned by Roy Rosen, with two undated journals at the end of the series. Often there are overlapping or lapsing time periods between journals.

These are not direct transcriptions, but are based on the original journals and embellished by Rosen's later recollections.

These are typescripts and revisions of material originally written in the 1920s, '30s, and '40s. Rosen lost or destroyed the original drafts (see his daily notes, Sept. 27, 1979, Box 5) and the original chronology has been lost.
