McFie "Rough Rider" Letter

Letter is dated July 25, 1898 and was written by McFie to his cousin May De Mier of Las Cruces. In it, McFie writes about his troop's efforts during the Battle of San Juan Hill and subsequent illness which he describes as malaria.

Myron Fickas Fifield was the director of Physical Plant at the University of New Mexico from 1951 to 1974. Fifield was also President of the national APPA (Association of Physical Plant Administrators of Universities and Colleges) in 1958-1959. National Education Task Force de la Raza

Scope and Content Note

The bulk of the collection materials are from 1973-1976 when Rupert Trujillo was chair of the Task Force. The materials focus on activities of the Task Force, particularly on conferences and workshops held during that time. There are several files related to bilingual-bicultural education, both in creating training programs and trying to get legislation passed. The collection also contains several reports of activities from around the country.

Sand Hill Massacre Account of Truman Blancett

Scope and Content The collection contains a report dated 5 January, 1936 (probably dictated to M.M. Watson) by Truman Blancett, relating events surrounding the Colorado Sand Creek Massacre of 1864. The report was sent to Ernest Thompson Seton of Santa Fe, NM, covered by a note from M.M. Watson dated 15 August, 1946, and stating that Blancett had died in 1945.
