Folk music -- Mexico

The John Donald Robb Field Recordings consist of Hispanic, Native American, and Anglo music recorded between 1942-1979 in different parts of New Mexico, the Southwest, Mexico, and Latin America. The collection contains Hispanic folk music such as the alabado, the pastore, the decimal, and the corrido. Additionally, Native American chants and dances, as well as Anglo cowboy and frontier ballads are represented in the collection.

This collection of sound recordings was donated to the John Donald Robb Archive of Southwestern Music by the Music Department of the University of New Mexico. It consisted of three reels of pre-1963 commercial recordings of Mexico music, which have been reformatted to three cassettes. Represented in the collection are canciones, corridos, rancheras, huapangos, vals (waltzes) and marchas.

The collection consists of correspondence, committee reports, board, and general meeting minutes, newsclippings, financial information, events and parades information, De Vargas and La Reina contestant applications, and materials relating to the promotion and the operation of the Santa Fe Fiesta. Collection includes by-laws, operating manuals, and contracts.
