Scope and Content

This collection contains the unpublished manuscript, Uncle José and the Animals, a children's story written by Helen Zunser and illustrated by Shomer Zunser. This story is a compilation of New Mexican folk tales and riddles. It is hand typed and contains original illustrations. The collection also contains a photocopy of Helen Zunser's published story,The Witch (1935), and 1 photograph of the author.

Scope and Content The collection consists of original photographs of Sierra County, New Mexico, particularly, the towns of Lake Valley and Chloride ca. 1880 - 1915. Photographs document general mining operations: building, equipment, miners and surrounding area views. Also represented are town events, landscapes, and an extensive portrait collection. The Henry A. Schmidt Collection consists of glass plate negatives of people and landscapes made by Schmidt in and around the southwestern New Mexican mining town of Chloride.

Scope and Content This collection of work by Hiester and other photographers includes work proofs, glass wet-plate negatives but is comprised mostly of stereoscopic views of New Mexico scenes, Pueblos, and Indian portraits. They pertain to the Galisteo Mining District claims (1879) and Los Cerrillos Mining District claims (1879–1889). This collection is comprised of cabinet and boudoir cards, a few stereoviews and viewing album pages with photos on both sides. All images are of New Mexico subjects. If album pages have single image they are 9 1/2" x 15", if four images, each is 4 1/2" x 7 1/2".
