Scope and Content

Collection consists of four excellent black-and-white portraits (8 x 10 in. or smaller), including one of Etta Blum taken by Ben Kerns (1980). The remaining three portraits are of Frank Waters. One, by Robert Kostka, depicts Waters standing in front of an Indian mural; another is a full length portrait taken out-of-doors before an adobe building (perhaps the author's home).

Biography

Etta Blum was born in 1908 in New York City. She attended Hunter College and Columbia University and for years worked for the New York City Board of Education. She published two books of poetry (Poems and The Space My Body Fills) as well as translating from Yiddish, poems and short stories written by her husband, Eliezer Blum-Alquit. She lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico from 1978 to the time of her death in 1981.
